I have been searching for my perfect nude lip colour for a while and the latest purchase on my hunt was the Maybelline Color Drama Velvet Lip Pencil in the shade ‘Nude Perfection’. A lot of bloggers have been talking about these a a dupe for the NARS Velvet Lip Pencils, I don’t own these so I can’t compare, but if they are similar I don’t think I would spend my money.
The packaging is nice and simple, a black pencil with white writing and the shade at the bottom makes it easy to see which colour you are picking up.
The pencil is quite short and the chubby pencil makes me think it might be difficult to find a sharpener. The actual product is quite soft, so it can break quite easily (as I have already discovered).
The shade is my favourite thing about the product. it is a lovely brown based nude that I think would suit a lot of people. Below is a swatch of the colour:
The major downside to the product is how dry it feels on your lips. The pencil does have a matte finish so it wasn’t unexpected, but it was drier than other matte products I have used. I wore this colour for a 5 hour shift and by the end my lips were so dry and the product had settled into the lines on my lips. Maybe this could be helped by applying lip balm before using the pencil.
Overall I wasn’t completely impressed with the Maybelline Velvet Lip Pencil. The colour is nice but the dryness of the product and the fact that it would be difficult to sharpen would put me off buying it again. The search for my perfect nude continues…
