Help I Gave Into the Hype- Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

Help I Gave Into The Hype- Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

So I’m starting a new series of posts on my blog called “Help I gave into the hype”. I don’t know about you but if I see a product mentioned a lot on other blogs I can’t stop myself buying it. Sometimes this works out really well and the product is totally worth the hype. Other times… well let’s just say I have a growing collection of disappointments. The first product I’ve decided to write about is the Maybelline Lash Sensational Lash Multiplying Mascara. I remember this being mentioned as a cheaper alternative to the Benefit Roller Lash and I haven’t seen one bad review.

Before I describe my experience with the mascara, I’ll show you the results:

The Results

As you can see my eyelashes definitely look longer and have more curl. I’m not sure if they look more volumised, which is strange because the main claim of the product is to multiply lashes. I do like the overall outcome though, I think I look more awake and “wide eyed”.

Application and Longevity

Application is quite easy with the “Layer Reveal” brush. According to Maybelline, you use the smaller bristles to capture all your lashes and the outer bristles to volumise and define them. I have to admit that I find my lashes go clumpy when using the smaller bristles first, so I don’t always follow this technique (which is probably why I didn’t get the volume!). I haven’t had any problems with longevity of the mascara, it lasts all day without flaking or smudging.

So are there any negatives?

Well, unfortunately there is one, and that’s how wet the formula is. I don’t like the look of clumpy lashes and this mascara does tend to stick lashes together. You may be able to see this in the photo above. This might be down to my application technique, but I have found that it’s getting better with time as the mascara dries out.

Overall is it worth the hype?

Honestly it’s a pretty good mascara. The formula is a bit wet at first but it seems to get better after a few weeks. I can’t say I’m completely in love with it, but I’m happy with my purchase. It does remind me of the Benefit Roller Lash, so as a dupe I’d say it’s worth the hype.

Have you tried this mascara? Do you think it’s worth the hype? Let me know in the comments.

The Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara costs £7.99 and is available in Superdrug and Boots.

  • Oh, cool! No one I’ve read has mentioned the brush and different types of bristles. I think that when I finish the mascara I am currently using I will try this one out. I find most Maybelline mascaras are pretty wet at first, so I’m used to it, haha.

I love this series idea! I think a lot of us can relate to suddenly having tons of products we’re not terribly impressed with!

    • I would definitely try it out, most people seem to love it! Thank you, it’s so easy to fall for the hype isn’t it? xx

  • I really had to get used to the rather wet formula and the plastic wand but after I while I really started loving it! It’s true that your lashes clump when you use the inside of the curve, I always use the longer ones!

    • Yeah I wasn’t sure at first but I’m liking it more and more! Same I always use the longer ones too. xx

  • I’ve got the waterproof version of this and absolutely love it – not sure how similar the formula’s are but I haven’t found it to be very wet. I’ve not stopped using it since I purchased it, so for me it was well worth giving into the hype!

    • Oh really? I might have to try the waterproof version then after this one runs out! xx

  • I didn’t find this too clumpy, weirdly – I’m actually a big fan! Maybelline are definitely a favourite of mine for mascaras.

    • I’m finding that it’s getting better as it dries out! xx

  • I’ve used this before I started blogging and just picked it up on a whim, on my third tube now and can’t see me swapping. I love it! Never had any problems with it clumping but it is wet when new and I find I get it on my eyelids. That’s my only complaint!

    • Oh that’s not good haha. As I said the clumping might be down to my application technique! I’ve started using it as instructed and it’s working well! xx

      • Ah brilliant! Id never thought of using the longer bristles so i tried it after reading your post – hello lashes! Love it x

  • Other than the wetness this sounds pretty great, although I’m scared to try another maybelline mascara.. my last one really disappointed me and was constantly transferring throughout the day! Summer xx

    • Oh really? The wetness isn’t a huge problem because it does get better after a couple of weeks. I haven’t had any transfer issues with this one if that helps! xx

  • I also jumped on the bandwagon and bought Lash Sensational. Can’t say I’m disappointed! Probably my favourite mascara ever. In general, I’m a big fan of some Maybelline mascaras 🙂 x

  • I do like this mascara. However I do find it quite wet! So it transfers to my eyelids xx
