So I’m starting a new series of posts on my blog called “Help I gave into the hype”. I don’t know about you but if I see a product mentioned a lot on other blogs I can’t stop myself buying it. Sometimes this works out really well and the product is totally worth the hype. Other times… well let’s just say I have a growing collection of disappointments. The first product I’ve decided to write about is the Maybelline Lash Sensational Lash Multiplying Mascara. I remember this being mentioned as a cheaper alternative to the Benefit Roller Lash and I haven’t seen one bad review.
Before I describe my experience with the mascara, I’ll show you the results:
As you can see my eyelashes definitely look longer and have more curl. I’m not sure if they look more volumised, which is strange because the main claim of the product is to multiply lashes. I do like the overall outcome though, I think I look more awake and “wide eyed”.
Application and Longevity
Application is quite easy with the “Layer Reveal” brush. According to Maybelline, you use the smaller bristles to capture all your lashes and the outer bristles to volumise and define them. I have to admit that I find my lashes go clumpy when using the smaller bristles first, so I don’t always follow this technique (which is probably why I didn’t get the volume!). I haven’t had any problems with longevity of the mascara, it lasts all day without flaking or smudging.
So are there any negatives?
Well, unfortunately there is one, and that’s how wet the formula is. I don’t like the look of clumpy lashes and this mascara does tend to stick lashes together. You may be able to see this in the photo above. This might be down to my application technique, but I have found that it’s getting better with time as the mascara dries out.
Overall is it worth the hype?
Honestly it’s a pretty good mascara. The formula is a bit wet at first but it seems to get better after a few weeks. I can’t say I’m completely in love with it, but I’m happy with my purchase. It does remind me of the Benefit Roller Lash, so as a dupe I’d say it’s worth the hype.
Have you tried this mascara? Do you think it’s worth the hype? Let me know in the comments.
